A group of 4 will trek in Bernese Alps in mid August. For the stage from Murren to Kandersteg via Griesalp, which lodge or mountain guesthouse would you recommend in Griesalp? I saw most accommodations are in Kietal. Currently, I booked Golderli . I would like to be in Griesalp so we will have shorter distance for the stage from Griesalp to Kandersteg. The difference in distance may be in-significant. Please advice.

Thanks.

Hello Ning,

What a nice plan you're setting up.

I have never stayed on the Griesalp myself, but on this page you will find all alternatives.
- www.griesalp.ch/en/eat ing-and-sleeping

I quickly looked at the one you booked and it looks lovely, as you say, the distance between the options in minor, as google maps will help you see (within a few hundred meters to max 1 km).

Maybe another forum member can provide more personal experience.

Enjoy your hike.

Best,
Steph

Hi Ning -

There are forum members who have discussed that hiking route here in the forum. Hopefully, one will jump in to offer personal opinions. You might find them by searching.

Here is related one.

www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/kandersteg-vs-lauterbrunnen-one-week-return-trip

Never too late has commented on the route before. You might search his posts.

Google maps, as recommended, will give you distances and, often, accommodations. It is not a topographic map

For hikers, there are are two much better maps:

Best map, absolutely:

map.geo.admin.ch/?topic=ech&lang=en&bgLa yer=ch.swisstopo.pixel karte-farbe&layers=ch.bav.ha ltestellen-oev,ch.swisstopo.swiss tlm3d-wanderwege&E=2624510.4 8&N=1155413.62&zoom=7

and,to help with the color coding on the trails:

www.alpenwild.com/stat icpage/trail-signs-in-the-swiss-alps/

Switzerland Mobility offers maps with extra information on selected trails including some accommodations:

( heavy green lines):

www.schweizmobil.ch/en /wanderland/hiking-in-switzerland.html

map.schweizmobil.ch/?lang=en&land=wanderlan d&route=1&layers=Wande rland&bgLayer=pk&logo= yes&season=summer&reso lution=50&E=2623720&N= 1153740

Click on the line near Griesalp, then select Trans-Alpina Stage 12, then keep clicking on further options, on the menu that pops up on the left, by clicking on "More."

www.schweizmobil.ch/en /hiking-in-switzerland/routes/rou te/etappe-01557.html

You can get altitude profiles, accommodations, etc.

Golderli is the perfect choice as is Griesalp. I've been to Griesalp a number of times and wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else! The accomodations are comfortable (note that there are toilets and a sink on each floor but no en-suite bathroom options), the food is absolutely divine. Showers (in basement) are new and work beautifully.

You will be amidst the baby llamas and alpacas there. A local rancher grazes his animals in the meadow at Golderli and across the road. The whole place is magical

I'm assuming you are aware that the Mürren to Kandersteg segment of the Via Alpina takes you over the highest passes in the Alps that are navigable without ropes or covered in ice? Sefinenfurge and Hohtürli are very very stout hikes with lots of elevation gain/descent, exposure, and skree. Only suitable for experienced alpine hikers with plenty of endurance and no fear of heights/steep drop offs.

Thank you all for good information.

I checked other accommodation and think Golderli is better.

So will stay in Golderli.

Thanks.

Hi Ning-- Sorry to be a bit late on this-- I don't usually follow this particular forum. In any event, Kim11 is spot on with her recommendation and description of Golderli. You'll enjoy it ,and will find that it is well-located for continuing on to Kandersteg.

BTW, be sure to order the Kaiserschmarrn. The innkeeper is an excellent pastry chef.
