Hi. there.

My family (5 of us) will be renting a car and staying at Lucerne from June 21-25, 2019. We have 3 kids below 26 years old.

Questions:

1) what is the most cost effective for 5 of us to go to Mount Titlis? should we buy the normal train tickets?

2) We also plan to go to Mount Pilatus and Interlaken by our rental car.

3) Should we buy any train tickets to get the discounts?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hello Norma and welcome to MySwissAlps,

1. Drive to Engelberg and buy tickets there.

2. If you want to do the Golden Round Trip including cable way and cogwheel railway then a car could be a disadvantage. As your car will be at the "other end" to where you end up.

3. The Swiss Half-Fare Card may possibly be a good idea but that depends on your broader itinerary.

Have you read www.myswissalps.com/ca rversustrain?

Hi Nbnorma,

On a lighter vain, 26 year olds should not be called as kids😂.

1) You should visit Mt. Titlis via Engelberg so that you can park your vehicle at the parking near ticket counter. For round trip you can buy 2 day pass for Summer which has fixed 30 CHF for kids. The pass includes Titlis round trip and Pilatus tour.

2) You can easily visit Pilatus and Interlaken with your rental car.

3) Tell pass includes train , bus, boat tickets also.

Hello Nbnorma,

1. Has already been answered, drive to Engelberg, then by cable car(s) to Mount Titlis
- www.myswissalps.com/ti tlis/gettingthere

2. If you stay in Lucerne I would also NOT use the car for that day and just use public transportation. Otherwise you can park the car in either Alpnachstad or Kriens and go up and down the mountain in the same way, also possible.

3. See Rockoysters answer above and details on the Tell Pass below:

Best,
Steph

Thanks so much for the valuable info. It really clear a lot of confusions that I have.

We will proceed to buy Tell-Pass Summer tickets for 3 days so that we can enjoy free of charge for Mount Titlis and Mount Pilatus.

If you have a Tell Pass it will cover all your transport so leave the car in the garage.

Indeed! You may not need a car at all if you have a Tell-Pass. You can start you day trips directly from Lucerne by train or boat. That's more convenient and flexible than a car anyway.
